Sinead must give birth prematurely

SHE HOVERS ON THE BRINK OF DEATH AFTER GIVING BIRTH EARLY…

Inside Soap - - CONTENTS - Sarah Ellis

Sinead hears devastating news this week, after her oncologist tells her that her cancer has spread – and she must deliver her baby right now!

Time is of the essence if Sinead wants to beat her illness, and the experts tell her she must start radiotherapy as soon as she can. That means giving birth to her son much earlier than expected to avoid harming him – but neither mother nor child are guaranteed to pull through…

“This is Sinead’s worst nightmare – not only is her own life in jeopardy, but she could lose her baby too!” gasps our cobbles insider. “Ever since she first found out she has cancer, her only thought has been the safety of her son. The idea that she might lose him now by giving birth prematurely is utterly heartbreaking.”

Special delivery

One of the most devastating things about the situation is that Sinead wasted precious time by refusing chemotherapy, worried its effects may harm her unborn child. It was only after the death of friend Steff that she realised she was putting herself at serious risk, and finally agreed to undergo the treatment she so desperately needed.

However, it seems it’s too little, too late, as she’s told that her tumour has grown – and she must take immediate action to stop it in its tracks. While she prepares to deliver her son weeks before her due date, news of the imminent arrival quickly spreads – and soon her friends and family have gathered by her bedside to throw an impromptu baby shower.

“The idea Sinead may lose her baby is heartbreaking”

“It’s a lovely gesture, and a great way to take Sinead’s mind off what’s ahead,” grins our spy. “Kirk, Sean,

Izzy, Craig, Carla, Sarah and Beth are all there, and Sinead’s truly touched to have her loved ones supporting her. But although she’s delighted, it’s all too much for Daniel – and he heads out for a moment alone.”

Daniel doesn’t get much time to himself, however, as it’s soon time for Sinead to give birth. He’s by her side when she delivers their baby son by Caesarean – but their joy is short-lived, as their son is whisked away to the neonatal unit! And when Sinead then passes out, Daniel’s terrified he’s about to lose them both…

Ken steps up

The next few hours turn out to be some of the most terrifying of Daniel’s life, as he waits for news of both his wife and his son. Luckily dad Ken is with him as he waits for an update, and there’s a moving moment for both men as Daniel introduces his father to his tiny baby son. However, Daniel tells Ken he fears his wife and son could be taken from him, prompting Ken to offer his boy some much needed emotional support. Yet things are about to get worse…

“As Daniel’s introducing Ken to the baby, the doctor asks if he can examine the little lad in private,” reveals our spy. “Knowing there must be a reason for this, Daniel’s left frantic. He could really do with Sinead’s comforting words.”

Thankfully, Daniel then learns that his wife is out of the woods – and as the pair are finally reunited, they decide to name their new son Bertie.

Devastating diagnosis

The new mum may be in the clear, but little Bertie isn’t – and Daniel suffers a further blow when doctors reveal the little’un has a bowel condition.

The news leaves Daniel devastated, and he makes the decision not to tell Sinead what’s going on just yet, for fear of setting back her recovery.

But how long can he keep it from her?

“Daniel has good intentions, yet Sinead is going to be furious when she finds out he’s been lying to her!” warns our sneak. “Bertie’s health is the most important thing to her, and if she learns the truth from someone else, it could cause a serious rift in their relationship!”

So as Daniel juggles caring for his poorly son and Sinead, will he be able to cope? And how long can he keep his wife in the dark about Bertie’s illness?
