Mel is under pressure about Ray

SHE’S PUT UNDER PRESSURE WHEN RAY’S OTHER WIVES TURN UP…

- Tom Spilsbury

Mel squirms this week, as Ray’s other women arrive on her doorstep, demanding to know the whereabouts of their bigamous husband!

The troubled businesswoman and her son Hunter have been away from Walford for the past few weeks, ever since cheating Ray was shot dead by Hunter during their New Year showdown. After burying the crooked cop’s body in the woods, Mel and Hunter made a brief return to the Square to dispose of evidence – before scarpering! However, as they return home, there are awkward questions for the pair to face…

“As Ray was on the run from the police anyway, his sudden disappearance doesn’t seem quite so odd,” reasons our Eastenders insider. “Mel has realised that as long as she sticks to the story that she had no idea he was a bigamist before his arrest, she can plausibly play dumb about his current location. The problem is, there are two people who know that Mel wasn’t quite so ignorant of Ray’s misdemeanours – his other wives, Maddie and Nicola!”

Mel’s unnerved when both women arrive demanding to know where Ray is, and vowing not to leave until they get some answers. However, after they’ve let off steam, Mel’s able to convince the suspicious pair that she really doesn’t have any idea where Ray has vanished to either.

“At this stage, there really aren’t any leads for anyone to follow up,” points out our spy. “Ray’s body is slowly rotting underground, and the police think he’s done a runner because they’re on his tail.

It all seems to add up, so they’re certainly not thinking about a murder investigation. However, if Nicola and Maddie get a sense that Mel is spinning them a line, things could start to get very awkward for her!”

As Mel tries to remove all traces of Ray from the house, Hunter is relieved to find the

gun he hid is still there.

But, as he told his mum that he’d broken it up and put the pieces in different rubbish bins, will Mel flip out if she realises he’s still in possession of the incriminating evidence?

Mel soon has cause for concern anyway, after Bex tells her about the fight between Keanu and Hunter (see p6). And when Jack finds Hunter trying to chat up girls at E20, Mel’s even more worried about how recent events are affecting her son – and so turns to Phil for advice!

“You can tell things are bad if Mel is turning to Phil,” frowns our mole. “Although will she come clean about what’s really happened to Ray? It’s a risk to get someone else involved, but if anyone might have some useful tips on how to get away with murder, it’s Phil Mitchell!”

Meanwhile, Hunter spots Nicola and Maddie watching him, as he goes about his business in the Square. It seems that their suspicions haven’t been completely allayed, so will Hunter crack under the pressure?
