Jay asks out Ruby on a date

JAY AND RUBY FINALLY HEAD OUT ON A DATE – BUT DISASTER SOON STRIKES…

- Allison Jones

Stacey finally manages to convince Jay to ask Ruby out on a date this week – and the lucky lady says yes!

The path of true love fails to run smoothly when the pair attempt to get their relationship off the ground, though – as meddling Billy intervenes! And while, against all the odds, Ruby and Jay do eventually manage to spend

an enjoyable evening together, Ruby returns home to find that her flat has been burgled. Is their burgeoning romance doomed already?

“Well done to Stacey for pushing Jay to at last make a move!” applauds our Walford spy. “She knows better than anyone that traumatised Ruby deserves some joy in her life. Now all Ruby and Jay need is for everyone else to leave them in peace, so they can hurry up and fall in love.”

In the wake of Stacey’s warm encouragement, Jay’s pal Billy sees fit to suggest to Jay that, given his and Ruby’s equally troubled pasts, getting together might not be such a good idea after all – so Jay ends up telling Ruby that perhaps they would be better off meeting as friends…

“Poor Ruby!” sighs our sneak. “Being friend-zoned when the date hasn’t even got under way is the last thing that she needs. Her confidence is already at an all-time low, so imagine how she feels as her date is downgraded before she’s had the opportunity to apply her lipstick!”

Despite the setback, kindly Stacey is supporting Ruby every step of the way as the big night with Jay approaches. However, it looks as though the whole thing is set to come to nothing once Ruby arrives at Walford East to meet Jay – and Billy gatecrashes with his own ‘date’ Shirley in tow.

“Jay and Ruby’s unexpected guests eliminate any chance of romance pretty sharpish – and it’s really no wonder!” mutters our insider. “Just what is Billy thinking? He’s hardly the most skilled in the love department, and don’t even get us started on this random pairing with Shirley – so of course they manage to put Jay and Ruby right off any smooching!”

However, when Jay later walks Ruby home from the Queen Vic, the smitten pair finally start making headway – with Jay bringing the duo’s roller coaster of an evening to a close with a sweet peck on Ruby’s cheek…

“It all looks good as they say a romantic goodnight – then Ruby steps through her front door to realise her flat has been burgled!” wails our snoop. “It’s a big shock for Jay when Ruby shouts out after him, and their tender kiss is soon a distant memory.”

Thankfully, this frightening development fails to put out the spark between Jay and Ruby – and later in the week, Ruby is asking for cooking tips from Honey for her next date with Jay. But will their dinner together prove a recipe for disaster, or for love?
