Maxine’s health crisis

SHE GOES TO EXTREME LENGTHS TO KEEP DAMON…

- Alice Penwill

Maxine’s true mental state becomes apparent this week, as viewers discover she’s suffering from Munchausen’s syndrome – a form of mental illness where a person pretends they have a physical or mental disorder.

The villager’s first feign of illness comes following a miscommunication with Damon about living together, but things soon spiral out of control…

“Maxine sends a text to Damon saying, ‘Come here now – I need you’,” explains Nikki Sanderson, who plays her. “Damon rushes away from being with Brody to come to Maxine’s aid, and when he gets to the flat he’s aghast to find her laying on the floor distressed. Maxine tells

Damon that she can’t feel her legs, and he immediately takes her to hospital so she can be checked out. He’s in shock.”

Unbeknown to Damon, Maxine’s collapse was all a ruse designed to capture his attention! And she’s prepared to keep up the pretence just to have him stick around.

“It’s very upsetting, because Damon genuinely cares about Maxine,” confesses Nikki. “If she believed in his feelings for her, Maxine wouldn’t think that she had to do all these things. She’s acting this way to gain his attention and to win his love – when the irony of it all is that she already has it!”

Maxine’s initial doubts were sparked when Damon broke up with her on New Year’s Eve – although the pair have since reconciled. However, after Damon buys the Love Boat this week, Maxine becomes more paranoid that he doesn’t want to be with her.

“There’s a small mention in passing about the Love Boat,” Nikki tells us. “Maxine believes that Damon will ask her to move in with him – so before he says anything, Maxine gets her hopes up. But it turns out Damon is just buying his own place to live in.”

Following her pretend collapse, Maxine stays in the hospital for further tests with Damon by her side the whole time – and she doesn’t seem to raise any suspicion from the doctors, either…

“Maxine’s playing a very good game!” exclaims Nikki. “With Munchausen’s, a lot of people carry out research into other disorders so that they can portray them as realistically as possible – and that’s what Maxine has done. At this point, Maxine is totally committed to doing everything she possibly can to keep Damon, and his attention.”
