The reality of his forthcoming wedding to Whitney hits home for Callum this week, as he sits down to write his marriage vows – and struggles to find the words.
Torn Callum is all set to tie the knot with Whit, while secretly haunted by the knowledge that he’s attracted to men and has shared an illicit night of passion with
Ben. So, there are really no prizes for guessing why he is suffering from a severe case of writer’s block…
“It’s the bit where you promise to ‘forsake all others’ that presents Callum with his first problem!” chuckles our Albert Square insider. “But even if Callum can somehow
push that huge betrayal with Ben to the back of his mind, why is he finding it so hard to put pen to paper where his feelings for Whitney are concerned? Let’s be honest, he might as well scribble down the words, ‘I’m just not that into you!’”
The fact that Callum is wearing his undertaker’s uniform while trying to summon the words that every bride wants to hear is a metaphor in itself, so is the penny finally set to drop for clueless Whit?
All the plans for her special day are slowly coming together, and with Stuart having helped her to buy her dream wedding dress, excited Whitney is on cloud nine. However, she can’t fail to notice how visibly challenged Callum appears as he tries to write his vows, so she is upset – and lets her man know it.
That only heaps more pressure on the reluctant groom, who doesn’t want to hurt Whit for anything in the world. But as alarm bells loud enough to rival the chimes of St Paul’s Cathedral and Big Ben continue to give Callum one almighty headache, how long will it be before his secret finally explodes?
“This is Eastenders, so it’s highly likely that Callum and Whitney are on a collision course for drama that peaks on their wedding day,” cringes our mole. “Despite his obvious struggle, however, Callum isn’t prepared to give up – and tries his best to write his vows following some dodgy advice from Mick, Mitch and Stuart. Hardly fountains of wisdom when it comes to women – but Callum is desperate!”
After Callum and Whitney hug out the weirdness between them, will he have found the inspiration he needs to express genuine love and affection for Whit? Or is their big day doomed as he continues to lie to her and, most of all, himself?
