Couch POTATO
TV presenter Ben Shephard picks his dream viewing…
I’ve literally just devoured series four of Gomorrah. The last episode of series three was, I think, one of the most ruthlessly exhausting and emotionally gripping programmes I’ve ever seen. It was amazing. I also loved
Ray Donovan and Billions – Damien Lewis’ character in that is remarkable.
We’ve recently been going back
through The Inbetweeners because my eldest son is kind of old enough to watch it, and we’ve been so desperate to see it again. And I think Veep is one of the greatest comedies I’ve ever seen – it’s terrifyingly close to our own politics at the moment as well, so it’s funny, but in a scary way.
Rocketman was just
incredible. I loved Bohemian Rhapsody,
too, but it’s the fact that Taron [Egerton, who plays Elton John] sings in the film. There’s this extraordinary story as well, of which I had no idea, and it’s such a wonderful insight into Elton’s life. Taron plays that role to a T.
Growing up, I watched things like
Kickstart – the fact that they used to ride their motorbikes through streams was incredible to me. I loved Blake’s 7, too, and Lovejoy on Sunday nights.
I’ll even watch that back now if it pops up. And I used to watch Superstars – as a kid, all I wanted was to be Brian Jacks or Daley Thompson and do
100 squat thrusts in 10 seconds!
If I could be on any other show, I’d
have loved a walk-on part in Game Of
Thrones. Having read the books, to be in one of the battle scenes armed with a giant sword or be up at the Blackwatch would’ve been amazing. What they did
with that series was extraordinary.
