Bex attempts to kill herself!
STRUGGLING UNDER THE PRESSURE, THE TROUBLED TEEN CAN TAKE NO MORE…
There are dreadful shocks in store for the Fowler family this week, as teenager Bex hits breaking point – and attempts to end her own life.
The prospect of leaving home for Oxford University is proving just too much for Bex to cope with – yet rather than confide in her clan with her true feelings, the traumatised youngster instead resorts to truly desperate measures. But can she be rescued before the very worst happens?
“From the moment Bex got her exam results and won her place at Oxford, her nearest and dearest have been beside themselves with delight,” says our Walford spy. “Of course,
Bex’s mum Sonia is bursting with pride about her little girl’s prestigious accomplishment – but unfortunately, her own excitement has meant that she’s not clocked how her daughter is struggling. And, unwilling to burst Sonia’s bubble, Bex hasn’t been able to open up about how she’s really feeling to those who care about her the most…”
At the start of the week, as Sonia continues fussing over preparations for Bex’s departure, Bex attempts to distract herself by throwing a baby shower for best pal Louise. It’s there that Lou’s mum Lisa spots just how distant Bex appears – but the teen is quick to deflect when Lisa questions her over how she’s feeling. And after Bex discovers that Sonia has asked Ian for a loan to help with her university costs, her burden weighs even heavier.
Lisa’s concern eventually prompts her to have a word with Sonia – but the proud mum still isn’t worried enough to call off the surprise leaving party she’s been planning for her daughter. Bex reluctantly agrees to attend the bash, and Dot’s unexpected return (see p28) provides her with some temporary respite. Yet after once again brushing off Lisa’s unease about what’s going on with her, Bex pretends to enjoy herself at her party, before sneaking off home by herself…
“With her big move now imminent, Bex can take no more,” admits our sneak. “She’s endured so much of late: losing her friend Shakil, struggling with her school work, her battle with pills, her dad Martin’s absence, and – most recently – being caught up in Hunter Owen’s terrifying siege at the Queen Vic.
“Her closest confidante Louise has been understandably distracted by her pregnancy and family troubles of her own, and as Bex dreads the thought of leaving Walford behind, it seems that she believes she has nowhere to turn. So now she’s thinking the unthinkable.” With her party still in full swing, Bex hatches her heartbreaking plan, and looks set to slip away unnoticed while her oblivious loved ones unwittingly toast her success. However, when Sonia returns home and finds her beloved daughter unconscious, is there still time to save
Bex before it’s too late?
