Can David make it to his wedding?

WILL BRIDE SHONA BE STOOD UP?

- Kate White

David and Shona’s wedding day looks doomed this week – as the groom faces a fight against the clock to get out of prison and to his bride’s side.

At the start of the week, it seems unlikely that there will be a wedding at all, as David’s evil rapist Josh maintains his false allegation that traumatised David tried to kill him. Shona’s in despair, and Gail even cancels the wedding booking – so does David have any hope of pulling off a miracle, and making it down the aisle?

“It doesn’t look that way,” admits Jack P Shepherd, who plays David. “Josh has come out and changed his statement, and said it was David who stabbed him. David

is still protesting his innocence, but Josh has said it’s David – so with these new allegations, David is being kept in while he awaits a date for another trial.”

Given that video evidence damns David too, it looks as if he faces a long stretch inside. However, on the outside, an unlikely saviour is fighting for his freedom. Despite their issues, Nick is now firmly on Team David – and is posing as Josh’s lawyer to try to convince him to change his story.

“David’s aware that Nick is trying to help him and that Billy has spoken to Josh too, but he’s given up really,” insists Jack. “He thanks them both for trying, yet David is resigned to the fact that he’ll be in prison for a long time. Unless something drastic happens, he knows that Josh isn’t going to change his story…”

Billy had hoped that he would be the one to convince Josh to tell the truth, although the adamant prisoner says that he’s only interested in looking after himself. When Paul spots Billy looking glum in the café, he asks what’s going on – and Billy pours his heart out.

“Paul was sexually abused, and David’s predicament obviously hits a nerve with him,” explains Jack. “So,

Paul goes to Josh’s bedside, and decides to take matters into his own hands.”

Whether Paul can get through to Josh remains a closely guarded secret, but what we do know is that as Shona tearfully packs away her wedding stuff, the police reveal that new evidence about the crime has come to light.

“David hears that Josh has changed his story again, saying it was Tez and Abe who attacked him, so David could be released

that day,” reveals Jack. “It means everything to him to get married to Shona, although whether they can actually get married when they planned to, he still doesn’t know.”

Time is tight, but David and Shona have fought all the odds to be together. Does Jack reckon that Shona is the right woman to become the next Mrs Platt?

“Yes, Shona means the world to him – she really does keep David sane and stops him going off the rails,” he tells us. “While his life looks completely miserable, he has to remember that he has her and two kids. They love each other, they have been there for one another through a lot of stuff, and I think that they need each other.”

So, will David and Shona tie the knot, and finally get their happy-ever-after?
