Daniel falls apart as Sinead is laid to rest…
This is the soul-destroying moment when widowed Daniel breaks down at his wife Sinead’s grave, as the reality of her tragic death hits home.
Corrie viewers up and down the country were in bits following a heart-wrenching episode that saw Sinead put up a brave fight before ultimately losing her battle with cancer. The scenes are sure to go down in cobbles history as some of the saddest the soap has ever seen – although more appear to be on the way, as Daniel struggles to cope…
“We’ve had a foreshadowing of the destructive element that lives in Daniel, and we’ll see that straight away,” explains actor Rob Mallard, who plays him. “He isolates himself, he doesn’t speak to anyone for a while, and just wants to be on his own. Daniel can’t understand why everyone keeps bothering him.
“Before Sinead, Daniel was completely self-motivated and focussed on survival, as he’d been on his own for ages,” continues the star. “I think, even though he’ll try to be stoic for the sake of the baby, you can’t suppress the worst parts of your personality. The nastiness, the bitchiness and moaning that he’s very good at – Daniel doesn’t want to be like that because of Bertie, and the promise that he made to Sinead to take care of him.
But it'll probably seep in everywhere else, and project on to other characters.”
Grief-stricken Daniel will be supported on the day by family members and close friends of Sinead, whether he wants their help or not. However, it looks as if the other mourners will head off after the funeral, and leave him to say a private goodbye to Sinead in the cemetery.
His eyes red and stinging with sadness, Daniel cuts a lonely figure as he struggles to control his emotions. Will this be a defining moment that sends him off the rails again?
