ALEC’S BACK – AND ON THE WARPATH – WHILE AUDREY AND VERA HAVE MONEY WOES…
CLASSIC CORONATION STREET | ITV3 MON-FRI
Debt-ridden Steve Mcdonald can’t believe his luck this week, when young heiress Vicky Arden offers herself to him on a plate. However, there’s one big, bald fly in Steve’s ointment – Alec Gilroy!
When Steve’s relationship with Fiona finally hits the skids, she responds in the time-honoured Weatherfield way by throwing all his belongings from an upstairs window. As word gets round, lovestruck Vicky is in like a greased whippet, and Steve – who knows to strike while the iron’s hot – proposes! (We’re certain it’s true love, and Vicky’s £250,000 inheritance has nothing to do with it.)
Word soon spreads, and furious Bet realises that she’s going to have to bite the bullet and summon Vicky’s grandad Alec from Southampton – though her ex is the last man she wants back in her life!
“I’m bound to have feelings, aren’t I?” says Alec, on his return to the Rovers. “Walking into this place. Seeing you again.” “Well, do me a favour and keep those feelings to yourself,” snips back Bet.
Conniving Alec persuades Vicky to delay her quickie wedding, with the promise of a lavish ‘do’ in the future – buying time to deal with Steve. But has he underestimated Steve’s own cunning?
VERA’S PRAYER
When a summons for non-payment of council tax arrives at the Duckworths’, Vera is horrified to learn that Jack blew three months’ bill money on their recent holiday, and scurries to St Luke’s Church to pray for an emergency bail-out from on high.
The next day, Jack is appalled to read in the
paper that his brother Cliff has died in a car crash in Malaga – and Vera worries her prayer was responsible! Is there an inheritance, or will they just be landed with Cliff’s debts instead?
ALF ON THE TAKE?
Audrey’s stunned by news that Alf might be stripped of his OBE because money is missing from the mayor’s fund. The Weatherfield Gazette brands Alf a thief, and Audrey is forced to cancel her new conservatory – the horror! Has Alf had his hand in the cookie jar?
