Leanne is clinging on to any sign of hope that Oliver will make a full recovery…”

Leanne is optimistic that Oliver’s condition is steadily improving this week, even though the doctors break further bad news to her and Steve.

After medics gradually reduce Oliver’s sedation, Leanne and Steve are overjoyed when their son wakes up. But while Leanne demands that Nick go home for Oliver’s favourite toy, the doctor warns the parents that Oliver may have suffered brain damage as a result of his recent seizures – however, Leanne refuses to believe it…

“Leanne’s in denial about Oliver’s potentially serious condition,” reveals our Corrie spy. “But most mothers would feel like this about their child.

Oliver has been in hospital since suffering a string of serious seizures – and after a collapse at home, he’s stayed in intensive care. Doctors have since told Steve and Leanne that Oliver’s condition is more serious than first thought, and that the most likely outcome is that the toddler is suffering from mitochondrial disease.

Despite little improvement, Leanne’s spirits are raised when she squeezes Oliver’s hand and he says ‘Mummy’.

But while Leanne hopes it’s a sign of his health improving, Steve and Nick are concerned.

“The two men fear that Leanne is getting ahead of herself,” says our sneak. “But of course they don’t want to dishearten Leanne. They are going to face the worst – if and when it comes – together.”

After doctors tell Leanne that Oliver’s tests results won’t be back for weeks and that he can go home, she reckons Oliver must be improving if they’re willing to let him leave. But is she heading for heartache?
