Cain stays by Moira’s side while she fights for her life in hospital

Desperate Cain refuses to leave estranged wife Moira’s bedside this week, as she continues her fight for her life. Cain still has no idea that reckless driver Jamie Tate was behind the wheel when Moira was run down – or that he’s hiding out as he decides whether or not to come clean. All Cain cares about is his wife pulling through. Together with his devastated stepson Matty, he keeps watch over Moira in her hospital bed. Her condition is grave, and doctors don’t yet know if she’ll survive, but Cain is willing Moira not to give up. “I don’t think that Cain could live his life without Moira,” insists Jeff Hordley, who plays the Dingle hard man. “Whether that means he wants to be in a relationship with her, that’s not the issue – it’s more a case of Cain not wanting Moira to die.” In recent months, particularly when he first discovered her affair with Nate, there were times Cain wished all kinds of harm on Moira. No woman has ever hurt him as deeply as his estranged wife, and it’s taken him a long time to even be civil with her. But, deep down, the love between them has never died, and Cain is fighting his feelings for her. Even his jealous reaction to thinking she might be seeing Malone is evidence of how he truly feels. So, will this terrible accident prompt him to finally open up about his real emotions and pave a way back for them? At the hospital, it’s a waiting game, and as the night draws in, Cain suggests they return home to get a good night’s sleep. But as reluctant Matty heads back to Emmerdale, Cain has a different plan. “Cain pretends to Matty that he’s heading home, but he actually lies that he’s going to the toilet, then sneaks back into Moira’s room,” explains Jeff. “He keeps a bedside vigil all night next to her, and you see at that moment that he still has feelings for her. If Moira dies of her injuries, Cain will be devastated.” There’s no doubt that Moira has a fight on her hands, but with Cain by her side and her children rooting for her, she has every reason to live. Will she pull through?
