While Moira fights for her life, calculating Andrea hits upon the perfect plan to keep husband Jamie in their marriage – by blackmailing him over his terrible secret. It was Jamie who knocked down Moira and left her clinging to life, as he recklessly raced to find Andrea. In his shock, he confessed to his wife that he knew he hit something – or someone. So, this week, when they discover that it was Moira who was the victim of Jamie’s dangerous driving, he realises the hold Andrea now has over him. “Andrea starts off wanting to support her husband and family – however, things change,” teases Anna Nightingale, who plays Andrea. “She knows Jamie is honest and goes out of her way to make him see what he could lose by coming clean.” There’s no doubt Jamie feels awful about Moira, yet he’s also terrified of prison, or facing the wrath of Cain and the Dingles. Tormented, he veers between confessing and keeping up the lie. But the one person he loves and wants to confide in is the person he can’t tell. Meanwhile, Andrea worries she’ll lose her hold over Jamie if he tells Belle. “Andrea thinks Belle might push her out of the picture,” shares Anna. “However, as she tries to manipulate and entice Jamie back, Andrea realises he’s still in love with Belle. It hits her that if something as monumental as this isn’t enough to make him fall back in love with her, then nothing will.”
Belle is bewildered by Jamie’s distant behaviour, and heads to Home Farm where she demands to see him, but is warned off by Andrea. Instead, Andrea convinces Jamie that the only way now is for them to fake a united front and pretend their marriage is back on. “It gets to a point where Andrea feels, ‘If you go against me, you will see what I am capable of’,” warns Anna. “If the authorities were to get involved, would Andrea manipulate the story? We just don’t know! She might be willing to risk Millie being without a father – just so Jamie can’t be with Belle.”
