MOLLY WINDSOR TELLS US HOW HER CHARACTER’S NEW JOB LEADS TO AN UNEARTHING OF SOME DARK FAMILY SECRETS IN THIS GRIPPING NEW CRIME THRILLER…

- Allison Jones

Based on an idea by crime writer Val McDermid and penned by former Coronation Street star Amelia Bullmore (Steph Barnes), this new six-part series follows Emma Hedges, a lab technician set to start a new job in her Dundee hometown.

When Emma – played by Molly Windsor – is encouraged to take a forensic science course led by her new colleagues, chemistry professor Sarah Gordon (Laura Fraser) and forensic anthropology professor Kathy Torrence (Jennifer Spence), she’s horrified to discover that her studies are based on the unsolved murder case of her own mother Marie – taking Emma on a traumatic quest for the truth…

“Emma was very young when her mum died, and never had an opportunity to process it,” explains Molly. “At the time, she was led by the people around her, who in turn were being led by their emotions. So learning about the forensic science of the case is important, because it deals with the facts. Emma ends up trying to understand her mum’s murder – although she’s never trying to solve it.”

As memories of Marie come rushing back, Emma seeks solace from her father, Drew (John Gordon Sinclair), childhood pal Skye, and Skye’s mum Izzy – played by ex-EastEnder Laurie Brett (Jane Beale). And after grisly revelations are unearthed in the series – which also stars Line Of Duty’s Martin Compston as Daniel – Emma is in need of answers. But will her mother’s killer ever be brought to justice?

“It was fascinating meeting real forensic scientists before filming – I wanted to get this role right,” declares Molly. “Acting is led by imagination and emotions – while forensics is so pragmatic, so it’s a completely different way of thinking!”
