GORDON RAMSAY PUSHES AMBITIOUS FOOD AND DRINK ENTREPRENEURS TO THEIR LIMIT WITH THE PROMISE OF A LUCRATIVE CASH REWARD…

- Allison Jones

Putting the contenders through their paces was crucial for me,” admits Michelin-starred chef and global business boss Gordon Ramsay, as he launches his search for the UK’s most exciting new food and drink business – in which he’ll invest £150,000 of his own cash. “They need the resilience, the vision and the drive to pick themselves up when things aren’t going incredibly well. Our challenges were designed to push them – when the chips are down, you have to dig deep!”

Rising to the challenge are 12 up-and-coming culinary tycoons. Restaurant boss Amit has a range of bottled Indian sauces; graduate Asher makes jam with a twist; health coach Bola offers apple cider vinegar seltzers; ex-Navy chef Jamie has a mussel bar; Jen is shaking up bottled cocktails; while Leah makes free-from cakes.

They’re up against Matthew and his zero-waste restaurant; Michelle’s clootie dumplings (traditional Scottish pudding); former Navy lieutenant Steph with Japaneseinspired soft drinks – plus Valentina and her vegan cakes; Victoria’s plantain-based snacks; and Vincenzo’s handsliced salmon…

“They were supercompetitive!” reveals Gordon. “In any business, there’s tension and pressure. The differences were inevitable as they’re all strong, independent characters – that’s why they’re successful in running their own businesses.”

The foodies are pushed to the limit in stunning UK locations. “We open up the show in Newquay, my family’s little haven,” shares Gordon. “Filming a challenge in the Lake District, designed for the mountain rescue team, was

And then London, the power and energy of which just helps push the contestants even further…” Despite the surrounds, the atmosphere does turn ugly at times! So who’ll power through to prove they’re the boss with the business Gordon’s after? “My advice to Future Food Stars is: Are you ready to take a quantum leap and get your business catapulted?” he offers. “If they can maintain quality and focus, the sky’s the limit!”
