My Telly HEAVEN!
As dark comedy The Baby continues on Sky Atlantic, star Michelle de Swarte takes a break from her alter ego Natasha’s trials with a totally terrifying tot to tell us about the TV she goes ga-ga for…
Hi, Michelle! What’s been the best thing filming The Baby?
Working on a cast and crew with loads of talented, funny women. And it was fun to work with the little ones – they’re adorable, right? When you’re doing a show that’s layered and complex, being able to hold a baby is nice!
What other shows have you been enjoying most recently?
I’m a bit late to it, but I absolutely loved the Sky Atlantic series The White Lotus – I cannot wait for season two. And I also love Selling Sunset for a bit of silly escapism.
How about your favourite comedies?
These are both stand-up shows – Ali Wong’s specials on Netflix always crack me up. I could watch them again and again. I love Bill Burr, too.
What did you love growing up?
I used to love EastEnders –
I think it was probably around the time of the Mitchell brothers’ era. But I dipped in and out over the years. And it wouldn’t be Christmas without watching the EastEnders Christmas special, would it? I really loved Desmond’s, too.
And South Park!
Is there a particular show you like to chill out with?
Gogglebox. Me and my sister love that show so much. We rotate our favourite households – whenever a new one joins, they become our new favourite. It’s such a simple, genius show.
Are you a binge-watcher?
Not so much, but I did recently binge Bling Empire [Netflix]. My cousin recommended it. It has this main character, Anna, who’s similar to Christine on
Selling Sunset – like the villain of the show who’s really funny.
Who on TV do you admire?
I loved Dame Edna. My mum took me to watch Dame Edna turn on the Oxford Circus Christmas lights. I loved that character!
And is there another show you’d love to be in?
Succession, as Shiv’s new love interest!
The Baby
