EDITH BOWMAN CELEBRATES FOOD, FARMING AND THE COUNTRYSIDE IN A BRAND-NEW SERIES…

- Allison Jones

There’s a culinary journey on the menu this week, as presenters Edith Bowman, Colin Murray and Sean Fletcher explore food festivals and markets around the UK. Joined by a host of chefs and foodies across the country, they’ll meet farmers and producers to discover the secrets behind some of our favourite food and drink. Here, Edith gives Inside TV a taste of what’s in store on the delectable daily road trip…

Hello, Edith! Tell us what Coast To Coast is all about…

It’s about celebrating local food stories from all regions of the UK, and the people that are involved in them. Food can be a real conversation starter and has this amazing ability to connect people. We visited some extraordinary places and met the most amazing people – of all generations.

Was it fun to work with your former BBC Radio 1 co-host Colin again?

It was really lovely, and it didn’t feel like work. There were a couple of journeys we drove in his car and it felt like a road trip – the two of us gassing and catching up. He didn’t have his driving licence when we started on the radio, so I’m glad to see that’s improved!

Can you pick any highlights?

We met a Syrian refugee in York to talk about her experience working with a community-led project, doing pop-up food evenings. It’s been a way to give back, to share her recipes from Syria and say thank you to the community for welcoming her.

Did you learn any new skills or discover a new favourite food?

A farmer in Derbyshire taught me how to drive a plough.

I was shucking oysters, too. I made fresh houmous and learned how to make pitta bread from a Greek chef. It was brilliant! There was also a lady in Manchester who produces this amazing ginger drink that was an old family recipe passed down from a great-grandmother back in Jamaica, and it’s brilliant

– I’m obsessed!

Are there any places you’d love to revisit?

We travelled over to Northern Ireland on the ferry, and my kids Rudy and Spike came with me for that trip – what a laugh! It was a bit of an adventure for us, and the crew were just brilliant with the boys. They learned how to shuck the oysters, too

– we had a great time!
