SISTER BONIFACE MYSTERIES Drama 9PM Hi, both! What can you tell us about series two?
Lorna It feels as if we’ve stepped things up a notch. There’s a lot going on: bras, parrots, LSD trips… Ami We have some amazing episodes – really funny and really heartbreaking. Lorna Yes, there’s lots of humour and lots of drama. We’ve had a wonderful time making it, I have to say.
And the two of you get to share more screen time this series…
Ami Yes, we see more of my character, WPC Peggy Butto. She’s more involved and helps solve a case. Lorna It’s lovely that we get to do more together. I feel the rapport we have is brilliant. And I love Peggy with Felix [Livingstone, played by Jerry Iwu] and Sam [Gillespie, played by Max Brown]. She’s like a stroppy teenager with them. Peggy in a mood is one of my favourite things in the show!
Ami This series we’ve had quite a bit together in the lab, and on the Vespa. I love being in the sidecar! Lorna And I discovered second gear for the first time. Took a few screams, but we got there in the end!
What are your favourite episodes this series?
Lorna The first episode, Don’t Try This At Home, where we had a real parrot on set. I’m slightly scared, and I had to put my face near the cage with the door open. I looked her in the eye and thought, “What do I do if she goes for me?” But she didn’t!
Ami Mine is Dead Air, about a pirate radio station. We get to see Peggy out of her uniform and in her civvy gear, which is always nice.
Why do you think the show has been such a hit with viewers?
Lorna Escapism: it’s a nice little bubble that you can just lose yourself in.
Ami It’s so different: I’ve never heard of any crime-solving nuns in real life!
Lorna And it leaves you with a warm feeling in your belly. It’s just, you know, lighthearted murder!
