My Telly HEAVEN!
As Aberdeen’s Major Investigations Team wraps up its latest case in Granite Harbour’s final episode this week, Michelle Jeram, who plays DS Simone ‘Monty’ Montrose, allows us to investigate her favourite TV shows…
What’s the best thing about working on Granite Harbour?
I love Scotland, so having the opportunity to return for a new series, along with the other cast members, was fantastic. We’re all good friends, so it was so good to see them again, along with the returning crew.
What have you enjoyed watching on television most recently?
I’ve just rewatched The Night Manager,
starring Tom Hiddleston and Olivia Colman. And I loved
Blue Lights and Kin on the
BBC, and The Gentleman on Netflix.
And how about comedy shows?
Motherland was fab – as was Derry Girls. I’m also a big fan of Katherine Ryan and watch anything she does.
Which shows did you love watching while you were growing up?
I’m a 70s child, so I remember shows like Wonder Woman, Charlie’s Angels and Hart To Hart. I was also a massive fan of Fame!
Were there any cartoons you especially liked?
Wacky Races and Scooby-Doo spring to mind…
Is there a show you like to relax with?
It probably doesn’t sound relaxing, but
I love a good documentary about true crime or serial killers. I was a police officer for 23 years and have always been fascinated by what drives people to commit such awful crimes.
What was the last series you binge-watched?
The Handmaid’s Tale – it’s exquisitely shot. Quite difficult to watch at times, but it’s a brilliant show.
Is there a particular TV personality who’s always inspired you?
I love to watch other actors’ performances – sometimes it’s just in a look. Sarah Lancashire and Nicola Walker are both brilliant at this.
If you could choose to be in any other show, which would it be?
I’ve always fancied being in a soap for a short stint. One of my first telly roles was in EastEnders a few years ago, and I’d love to go back to that. It would also be good to play one of the not-so-law-abiding characters in Gangs Of London! And the role of Susie Glass in The Gentleman [played by Kaya Scodelario] was a great character…
