Hi, both! How does it feel to bring Ruby Sunday and the 15th Doctor to the screen? Millie Crazy! It’s wild to be someone’s first impression of the companion, because I’ve grown up with this world, so it’s really special. Ncuti I’m feeling ready! It started ages ago. I’ve had the privilege of working with the team and just sitting on this incredible project. It’s time to share it!
Ncuti, what’s it like seeing yourself as the Doctor? Ncuti Weird! But so cool. It’s not nice watching yourself, but it’s nice watching all the work that everyone has poured into the series.
Did either of you have any say in your costumes? Ncuti Pam Downe the costume designer is incredible: she’d present us with the most incredible designs, then we’d speak about the episode and what was going to be needed practically – but also what makes us look hot! Millie Yeah, Pam let me pick colours for my outfit, and [for ep 2], we tried all these different types of boots. Then the beehive just made it extra-sassy!
What was it like filming the opening double-bill: Space Babies and The Devil’s Chord?
Ncuti Oh, so much fun: Space Babies just seemed mad. Then shooting it – we were working with, like, 10 babies! I think it really sets up the series for all the fun and chaos and adventure that’s going to happen. Millie I remember reading The Devil’s Chord and
I was like, “Wait, we dance with Johannes and Shirley from Strictly? Okay…”! It was the craziest thing but that day dancing with them, we had a ball.
Are either of you natural dancers?
Millie It wasn’t included in the audition process! Ncuti We had Jack Murphy, an amazing choreographer, who whipped us into shape. We had a lot of help!
