For those with an interest in the history of First World War aeroplanes, the Centennial Perspective on Great War Airplanes series is a must. The 54 volumes [47 on German aeroplanes] offer an incredible wealth and depth of information. Each of the lavishly illustrated volumes focuses on a German aircraft manufacturer or type. Some manufacturers, such as the Albatros works, are covered across several volumes.
Whatever title one picks, the choice of photos, colour profiles, documents and drawings are nothing short of excellent and make similar publications obsolete.
The reviewed title focusses on the world’s first allmetal aircraft, including the development of its structural technology and deployment in combat, weaving the story of these fascinating aircraft around 356 photographs (82 in colour) and colour profiles of 13 different aircraft.
This is yet another truly superb title from Aeronaut.
