David Flood celebrates 30 years
Leeds Castle is inviting children to celebrate its 900th anniversary by entering its Big 900 Story Writing Challenge.
Broadcaster and author Clare Balding (above) will be judging, as will ceo Sir David Steel and Helen Ellis, head of education.
Children aged five to nine and 10 to 13 are encouraged to write a story of up to
900 words based loosely around the themes of ‘castles’ and ‘time travel.’
Entries will be shortlisted by the castle’s education department before the winners are selected by Clare Balding and the inhouse panel.
The winning stories will be placed within a time capsule and buried in front of the castle, only to be opened 100 years from now at the castle’s millennium.
Ten finalists from each age category, along with their families, will be invited to an Awards Day at Leeds Castle on 30 May 2019.
The two victors will win a hamper of prizes, a family stay at Knight’s Glamping, a private tour of the castle and family tickets to the Fireworks Spectacular 2019.
They will be invited to take part in the time capsule ceremony on 25 June, joining HRH Princess Alexandra, patron of Leeds Castle.
