Hi Kent, the local charity that helps the county’s 350,000 deaf and hard of hearing people, held its annual fundraising dinner at the London Beach Hotel in Tenterden. The event was hosted by Hi Kent’s patron, the Rt Hon Ann Widdecombe, whose after-dinner speech ‘After The House’, covering her time in Parliament right up to her recent appearance on Celebrity

Big Brother, was followed by a lively Q&A. Ann also chatted with diners and signed copies of her books, which were sold to benefit Hi Kent. Kent-based French magician Etienne Pradier entertained diners with some spectacular close-up tricks and illusions. Many civic dignitaries from all over Kent attended, as well as Hi Kent Trustees, staff and supporters, and a total of £3,075 was raised in support of the charity during the evening.
