This pretty cottage hardly knows itself after a total makeover to bring it right up to date. Homes & Living found out more.
The small village of Chart Sutton is five miles south of Maidstone.
Together with the nearby villages of Sutton Valence and East Sutton it forms one of “the three Suttons”.
Chart Sutton is on the edge of the Greensand Ridge, where it overlooks the Weald of Kent. Around 700 people are on the electoral roll.
A post office, garage/petrol station, pubs, church and primary school are at nearby Sutton Valence,
The parish council website notes that chart is the modern word for the Saxon “caert”, meaning heathland, this area being on the route used by the North Kent tribes when they took their stock south to fatten on the rich forest lands.
Later records, from 1855, show that the area was noted for producing superior golden hops, fruit and cobnuts.
