New arrest in Carl murder inquiry
A FIFTH person has been arrested in connection with the murder of former teacher Carl Davies.
It is understood the man, whose age is not known, was taken in to custody two weeks ago, but the information only released in a statement on the Facebook group Justice for Carl last week.
Carl was 33 when he was killed on the French administered island on November 9, 2011.
The former Royal Marine had been working as a security guard on a ship which had berthed there.
Prior to that he had worked as a teacher at Sittingbourne Community College and the Isle of Sheppey Academy.
His parents Andy and Maria Davies, who live in Harrietsham, were initially told their son had died after falling into a ravine, but a week later they received the news he had been murdered.
The couple, who have been fighting to get justice for their son ever since, welcomed the latest developments.
Mr Davies senior said: “We are pleased because every time something like this happens it’s another step forward, but we have signed a mandate which prevents us from talking about the case.
“If I do I face a fine of 14,000 euros but we were forced to put something on Facebook about the arrest because it was leaked on the Island of Reunion.
“The authorities there have been made aware of the situation.
“The process is ongoing and it will go on over many months. Maria and I will go out there for the judgement but we’ve got no idea when that will be. It’s frustrating for us but we’re optimistic.
“We are taking big leaps forward, it’s a positive sign and we are happy with the way things are going.”
