Kent Messenger Maidstone

Left waiting for bus and explanation

-

Email: nlillitos@ thekmgroup.co.uk FURTHER to the recent correspondence regarding the abysmal bus service offered to Penenden Heath residents using route 79, I wrote to the managing director of Arriva at Armstrong Road, drawing his attention to the inconvenience caused to all their passengers following the recent change of route to the 79 bus. I also complained that whenever they are short of buses at the depot, the first bus to be cancelled seems to be the number 79, even though we only have an hourly service now. I asked him why Arriva did not cancel one of the buses on a more frequent route, (such as the 82, which runs every 10 minutes). At least those passengers have another bus 10 minutes later if one of theirs is cancelled, whereas we have to wait another hour for our next one. I wrote three weeks ago and have still not had the courtesy of a reply. Jane Davey, Bannister Road, Penenden Heath I am still very proud and honoured to be part of the club’s history. I have nothing but total admiration and respect for what Oliver with others has achieved by bringing MUFC home, so that its supporters can watch their team play in their own stadium within the town boundaries. I look forward to meeting some of you when our clubs meet as I am now a director of Thamesmead Town, who also have been promoted to the Ryman Premier. Paul Bowden-Brown, Sittingbourne Road, Maidstone In rural areas, many of the houses, or blocks of houses, are a long distance apart, often with long drives and then with no letterboxes, or with letterboxes hidden behind massive wooden boundary doors or locked doors or gates. How some people get their post is a mystery. Postal workers have my full sympathy. Letterboxes are hidden, so small that everything has to be folded, or right at the bottom of the door. I can’t count the number of times dogs craftily stayed mute until they leapt at my hand as I had to push through yet another modern letterbox. These have a flap each side and thick brushes in between, which means you end up needing plasters on your fingers due to the abrasions caused. Canvassing is an extremely timeconsuming and difficult job, especially for small parties with few helpers who can spend many long hours leafletting. Phil Granger, Alma Road, West Malling
