The Mote maintain perfect start

-

BATSMEN James Hodgson and James Walton guided The Mote to their second straight victory, at home to Bromley Common.

Chasing 192 to win, the Maidstone side took their runchase into the final over of the game. However, Hodgson (61) and Walton (71) stayed at the crease and got their side over the line at 194-3.

Mote skipper Alex Fordham said the win was less dramatic than the scorecard suggested.

He said: “We were only three down and with James and James both getting 50s, it was fairly comfortable. They timed it well.

“In the past, we may not have got over the line because we’ve not chased well but the last two performances suggest that will be different this year.”

Gamindu Kanishka picked up 3-55 as Bromley Common were restricted to 191-9 in their 55 overs.

The Mote sit top of the early Division 1 table but they face their toughest test of the season so far tomorrow (Saturday).

They host Tunbridge Wells, who were relegated from the Premier Division last season.

Addington Village are also looking to extend a 100% record this weekend after they beat Upchurch by four wickets in Division 2.

Having won the toss and chosen to bat, Upchurch collapsed to 90 all out. Their demise was due largely to the efforts of Ross McDermott, who ripped through the top-order on his way to figures of 5-11.

The villagers made hard work of their innings, losing several early wickets but skipper Neil Scott (36) helped them to 94- 6.

In Division 4, Offham picked up their first win of the season, at Minster. The home side made a quick start with the bat but Offham reduced them from 83-2 to 138- 8 and finally 181 all out. Graham Razey (5-34) was the pick of the bowlers.

Tom Gittings (67) and Ben Gittings (63) put on a 112-run stand for the second wicket in Offham’s reply. The visitors cruised to 185-5 and a five-wicket win with five overs to spare.

Leeds & Broomfield thrashed Gravesend RF by 172 runs in Division 5.

Michael Shelton top scored with 40 in the Leeds total of 230- 8 and Neil Dibben picked up 4-27 as Gravesend were bowled out for 58.

Benjamin Bowles hit 70 for The Mote 2nds in their nine-wicket win against Hayes in Division 1. After bowling Hayes out for 136, The Mote eased to victory at 140-1.

In Division 3, Addington Village 2nds won by four wickets at Downham & Bellingham (164).

However, Offham 2nds were bowled out for 154 in Division 5 and they lost to Blackheath Wanderers by five wickets.
