Pester power leads to bus route change

-

THE number 79 bus service will make an additional stop in Holland Road.

The change comes after several complaints were made to Arriva and in the KM letters pages by people who found that new stops left them further from the town centre.

Arriva has shortened the route, meaning the service now makes less stops in the town centre than it used to.

But the change has led to complaints from some that elderly people and those with prams faced a struggle to walk from the periphery of the town centre when they got off the bus.

Now Arriva has said an additional stop will be provided in Holland Road.

Arriva publicity manager Richard Lewis said: “We are sorry that some of our customers have found the revised route of service 79 through the town centre to be less convenient than before.

“The change was made to overcome a level of unreliability that was unacceptable, and the quicker route through the town has markedly improve this.”

Mr Lewis also said that buses would continue to stop at Pudding Lane, Earl Street and Station Road.
