Lucy spurred on by family rivalry

-

CYCLING 85 miles along the Kent coast is a feat any athlete would find daunting, but an 11-year-old girl from Boughton Monchelsea is gearing up to complete the challenge.

Lucy Hill, of Green Lane, hopes to finish the route in two days and will be joined by her dad, Gavin, 47.

The Boughton Monchelsea Primary School pupil was due to set off from Whitstable yesterday and aims to arrive in Rye today.

Both of Lucy’s older siblings took on charity challenges when they were her age.

Her older sister Laura, now 16, raised £1,050 walking around Guernsey and her brother George, now 14, raised £1,200 cycling around the Isle of Wight – but Lucy is hoping to beat their tallies for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Lucy said: “I want to outdo my older brother and sister. I really like riding on my bike, it’s my favourite sport and something I do with my family quite often.

“I think it’s a good charity because a lot of people need help and we all need to support more people more often.”
