Cockrill pipped just before the line after impressive ride

CYCLISTS from San Fairy Ann competed in a range of different events this week. John Cockrill finished second at the category 3/4 South East Road Race League event at Cyclopark in Gravesend. His team-mate Richard Poynter came fourth. Having only earned category 3 status a few weeks earlier, this was a particular­ly impressive ride by Cockrill. He made a break from the pack with two laps to go but was caught just 10 metres from the line. San Fairy Ann’s Dan Sims won the Marshman middle-distance triathlon in 4hours 27min 32sec. The event comprised a 1.9km swim, 92km bike ride and 21km run. Dean Chiddentio­n was the club’s top performer at the 10-mile time trial at Harrietsha­m. He clocked 22min 49sec, ahead of team-mates Dick Naylor (23.40), Jason Gould (23.49), Paul Ellson (24.29), Rory Hopcraft 24.38) and Matty Waters (25.03). Elsewhere, San Fairy Ann’s Michael Gore completed the National 10-mile Time Trial Championsh­ips in 23.38 and Martin Foord achieved a season’s best 23.41 at the CC Bexley Club 10 event. John Tidyman (22.34) was the fastest San Fairy Ann rider at the Toachim House 10-mile time trial in Hamstreet.
