Super seniors’ glittering form
MEDWAY and Maidstone’s senior men won four golds at the Kent County Championships in Ashford last weekend.
Alex Wharfe won the pole vault with a throw of 3.90m while team-mate Dean Oakes was third (3.70).
Ben Tyler won in the 5,000m in 15min57.75sec, while Jake Greenwood (6.38) took gold in the disability shot.
Darren March landed triple jump gold (13.68) and collected a long jump silver (6.13).
Martin Brockman finished second in the high jump (2.00) and javelin (53.16) and third in the 200m (23.21).
Andrejs Safars was third in the 800m (1.57.94).
The club’s best showing for senior women was Deborah Hope’s silver medal in the 5,000m in 19.34.32.
In the under-20 men’s section, Adam Gilbert won the 1,500m (4.06.54).
Gold medallist Cameron Corbishley (13.09.17) finished more than a minute clear in the 3,000m walk, while Reece Dimech took second in the 400m (50.08).
Michael Watson (11.22) finished half a second behind the winner in taking 100m silver for the under-17 men.
Lewis Heffernan (51.68) came second in the 400m, while George Clements came third in the shot (11.25).
Joseph Thurgood led the M& M charge in the under-15 boys. He won gold in the high jump (1.65) as well as silvers in the long jump (5.41) and 80m hurdles (11.88). There were also silver medals for William Milham in the 300m (39.74) and Jake Berry in the 1,500m (4.28.41). Harriet Day took bronze for the under-17 girls in the triple jump (9.69). Darcey Kuypers won silver in the under-17 women’s long jump (4.75).
There was a gold medal for under-15 girl Amber Durrant in the high jump (1.58) and bronze for Laura Arnold 1.55).(
