Fordham suffers injury blow

Kent League

-

NEW captain Alex Fordham has led The Mote to the top of the table – but faces a spell on the sidelines after breaking his finger.

Fordham’s team lead Division 1 of the Shepherd Neame Kent League after a 45-run home victory against Tunbridge Wells on Saturday.

But on Bank Holiday Monday, wicketkeeper Fordham (pictured), injured his finger during a 20/20 match at Offham. He has a hospital appointment today (Friday) where he’s set to learn how long he’ll be out.

Fordham said: “I fractured two bones in my finger, which isn’t ideal as a wicketkeeper.

“I knew straight away what had happened. I have an assessment when I’ll find out whether it needs to be pinned.

“I definitely won’t play on Saturday but hopefully I won’t be out too long.”

James Walton top-scored with 80 – his third half-century in a row – as The Mote closed on 209-9.

Joe Fowler removed the Wells openers then James Hodgson took 4- 41 as Wells were bowled out for 164.

In Division 2, Addington beat Catford by five wickets. Michael Castle took four wickets and top scored with 53 as Addington chased down 157. In Division 5, Leeds & Broomfield had to settle for a winning draw against Bickley Park.

Adrian Samson scored 50 from 88 balls in Leeds’ 232 but Bickley

held on for a draw, closing on 115-7.

Offham were bowled out seven runs short of victory at Macknade. Graham Razey took 5-24 as Macknade were restricted to 115. Tom Gittings (26) and Tom Evans (11) made a solid start before Offham collapsed.

The Mote lost by 42 runs at Beckenham in Division 1 of the 2nd XI section.

Leaders Beckenham were bowled out for 192 with Richard Gentry (3- 61) the pick of the attack. Addington Village 2nds squeezed home by one wicket in Division 3 against OD CUACO. Simon Grove ran through the batting to finish with outstanding figures of 8-31 as OD CUACO were bowled out for 89. Addington won thanks to last pair Phil Roxburgh (13 not out) and Chris Rolfe (6 not out). Opener Gary Evans hit 62 in Offham 2nds’ Division 5 win over Tunbridge Wells.
