Man jailed for attack on drunk
THUG Allan Hobbs insisted he “felt protective” towards women after claiming he was defending his partner during a late night beating.
But a judge told him this “rang hollow” after it was revealed he had attacked his current and previous partners.
Hobbs, from Hill Crescent, Lenham was jailed for two years for two assaults.
His victims, Stephen King and girlfriend Natasha Mangan had been out in Ashford last September.
Hobbs, 30, was caught on camera beating Mr King to the ground before returning to his car to arm himself with a spanner and continuing the attack.
As Mr King’s drunken girlfriend tried to protect him, Hobbs knocked her to the ground.
Prosecutor Vivien Walters said Mr King, who had been drinking, was on his way home from a pub when he had words with Hobbs.
“He was knocked unconscious and the next thing he remembers was waking up in hospital.
“Ms Mangan also has no recollection about what occurred. She was arrested for being drunk and disorderly... but CCTV revealed she had been punched to the ground.”
Hobbs, who admitted assault causing actual bodily harm and common assault, has previous convictions for being drunk and disorderly, drink driving, possessing an offensive weapon, racially aggravated public order offences and assaults on police.
Kerry Waite, defending, said Hobbs claimed his girlfriend made allegations against Mr King.
He said: “He is protective to women that are close to him...”
But Judge Adele Williams at Canterbury Crown Court said: “I find that hard to believe.. given what is said in the probation report that he not only has assaulted his current partner but a previous partner also!”
