Agonising time for family as Sofia, two, undergoes treatment for leukaemia
Footballers are all pitching in
MAIDSTONE United FC will be holding a charity football match on Saturday, June 15, to raise funds for the Royal Marsden Hospital where Sofia has also been treated.
Gillingham FC striker Danny Kedwell will be bringing a team of All Stars to play against Tunbridge Wells player Richard Sinden’s Super Stars.
Zoe Stanton said: “The hospital was really great. They looked after Sofia really well, they were such nice people.”
The hospital is a worldleading cancer centre specialising in diagnosis, treatment, care, education and research.
Mr Sinden said: “I have children, so it was awful to hear about a friend’s child having to go through that horrible experience.
“I just wanted to do something to help.”
Barry Stenn at Maidstone United Football Club said: “We are very happy to host this event and help a little girl in her fight.”
There will be collection buckets and a raffle with signed football shirts.
Money raised will be going to www.justgiving.com/ fiabelle FIREFIGHTERS were called to free a baby locked in a car at Tunbridge Wells Hospital on Tuesday.
A crew from Tunbridge Wells Fire Station was called to the car in the multi-storey car park.
Kent Fire and Rescue Service confirmed firefighters broke into the vehicle at 4.30pm with the mother’s permission.
The gender and age of the baby are not known, but the tot emerged from the ordeal unscathed.
