Pet poisoner theory over cat deaths

-

A suspected cat poisoner is being blamed for taking the lives of two pet moggies who died in agony, having eaten anti-freeze.

One of the animals, named Becks, had only three legs after falling foul of an air-rifle attack a year ago.

He and another cat, called Gremlin, had to be put down after both were deemed beyond saving having ingested the toxic liquid.

Another cat called crackers was shot dead in the same area just over a year ago.

Owner Jennifer Gungor thinks a cat-hater may be responsible after the attacks in plover Road, Larkfield. she said: “It was so horrible to see. What vicious evil person would do this?”

But Laura Burton, of sandhole Veterinary centre, said it could not be determined if the cats had been deliberately poisoned. A FOAL was left fighting for its life after it was callously abandoned and covered with rubbish in an isolated field.

the emaciated pony, believed to be a three-year-old Gypsy Vanner, was left to die in the far corner of a field in Harrietsham.

sam skinner, who keeps a horse at a stable on poplar Farm, has spent the past 10 days trying to nurse the stricken colt back to health.

the 35-year-old HR manager, who has named the pony poppet, found the foal amongst flytipped rubbish in Water Lane on tuesday, May 28.

the mum-of-one said: “this is such a wicked thing to do. It’s an absolutely horrible situation that the poor pony is in. When I first saw him I didn’t know whether to be sick or cry.

“It’s still early days for poppet, he has brightened up, but his body is covered in sores and he absolutely stinks. He is so weak, he is basically just a skeleton.”

A blood test has revealed poppet suffers from scarring to the liver and a sack of fluid has been found on his heart.

provisional estimates suggest it will cost a minimum of £550 in veterinary care, assuming there are no complications in his recovery.

despite the need for financial support, Miss skinner says the help she received from the RspcA is inadequate.

she said: “When I found poppet I had £3 in my bank account. I said I wouldn’t have a choice but to leave him but they told me if I did I could be prosecuted for neglect.

“they did pay £60 for a blood test, but they didn’t check to see how he is and only called back, I assume, once they knew I had contacted the press.”

An RspcA spokesman refuted the claims and said: “We understand this particular pony is being cared for by someone who kindly rescued it.

“We have contributed towards his care and organised for a vet to attend and will continue to advise and help where we can.

“We urge anyone with any information about the incident to let us know so we can investigate.”

the problem is on the increase. Between January and May this
