lester.gosbee@btinternet.com There are two huge events coming up in the coming weekend/ week, Glastonbury and Wimbledon. If you are off to Glastonbury, the weather will be kinder than some years . We will have the effects of some tropical air from ex Hurricane Bill next week. Today (Friday): There will be more cloud than we have seen in recent days, but we will all get some sunny spells. The morning will be best for this. There will be the risk of a little rain in West Kent by evening. Winds will be westerly at 4-7mph with temperatures at 21C (70F). Tomorrow (Saturday): A day of bright or sunny spells mixed with cloud. Weekends over the summer so far have not been as sunny as some weekdays. Winds will be south westerly at 5-11mph with temperatures still at 21C (70F). Sunday: Another day of broken cloud, but the cloud will be the main feature. Temperatures could reach 22C (72F) in a light south west wind. Monday to Thursday: Becoming increasingly humid as tropical Bill imports some very hot air from Spain and the South of France where it is 40C (104F). We will have temperatures at the start of the week at 22C (72F), rising to 25C (77F) by Thursday, and a 30% chance of reaching 30C (86F). If this happens, it will feel very oppressive.

St Margaret’s Summer Fete will be held at the church from 12.30pm–3pm on Saturday, June 27. Entry is free and there will be games and face painting, a barbecue, cakes, books, DVDs, produce and preserves as well as entertainment, refreshments and a tombola. Do try to come; it wouldn’t be the same without you. Lunch club: Next Monday will be the start of the second half of the year and the first Wednesday will be on July 3, when members of the lunch club convene for their monthly meeting. This time it will be in The Redstart; just go along at 12.30pm but you will need to confirm that you will attend by calling Derek on 01622 726241 by noon on Monday, June 29. Pull the other one: Many weddings take place in the summer and the melodious sound of church bells is usually requested. St Margaret’s needs more bell ringers whether experienced or beginners. Anyone new to ringing can (literally) learn the ropes on Cactus Club: The Maidstone and Medway branch of the British Cactus and Succulent Society will meet in the parish hall, Tonbridge Road on Wednesday, July 1 at 7.30pm for 8pm. Chris Davies will be the speaker and his subject will be New Mexico with the table show calling for one cactus and one succulent in pots of any size. Contact trevordudswell@btinternet.com for full details. Choral Union: Carmina Burana will be performed by the Maidstone Choral Union which includes several members from Barming in All Saints Church at 7.30pm on Saturday, July 4. That being American Independence Day there will also be a Stars and Stripes prom. Tickets cost £12 on the door or from freda@me169lb. fsnet.co.uk or call 01622 726193. Special service: St Andrew’s church is celebrating its 90th anniversary this year and many people with past and present connections have been invited to the 9.45am Songs of Praise on Sunday, June 28. Hymns that were popular each decade of the church’s history will be sung followed by a bring and share lunch. All will be welcome to this uplifting service.
