It was lovely to see a couple of young mums with their pre-school children taking the opportunity for afternoon tea before meeting their older children from school. More than £120 was raised; £60 will go to both Demelza House and the Alzheimer’s Society. Thanks to everyone for their generosity. Register to play: For details of the summer playscheme, see the Yalding column. School fundraiser: The primary school fair and pet show last Saturday was a popular event held on a sunny afternoon. The fun stalls challenged young and old alike while the catering stands and bar were kept busy. There seemed to be more dogs than ever in the pet show classes, where the ‘prettiest bitch’ proved a particularly popular class. Garden safari: The garden safari proved popular as the eight open gardens received a steady stream of visitors throughout the afternoon. Each garden had something different to offer and there was even a lovely tea room in the garden of Den Farm. Money raised will support church funds. The next church fundraiser will be the summer concert in church on Saturday July 4. Details next week, but meanwhile buy tickets from Margaret Ashworth on 01892 730323. Monthly tea party: The next monthly tea party for those living alone in the parish will be at The Old Vicarage, the home of Laura Fidgeon on Wednesday July 1 from 2-4pm. To attend, call Margaret on 01892 730323. Woodpeckers’ working party: The Woodpeckers will be back in the churchyard at 10am on Saturday July 4 to keep the churchyard looking good in this season of rapid growth. Just turn up with secateurs, fork and loppers if you would like to help. Pam’s fruit cake in the well deserved break will be as good as ever! School news: The village school will be hoping for fine weather on Friday July 3 when it holds its annual sports day. The reserve date is Monday, July 6. The new reception year parents whose children start school in September will attend a coffee morning at the school on Tuesday June 30.
