Expansion doubles size of primary

St John’s Church of England Primary School in Weavering has doubled in size.

Phase one of the expansion was completed in 2013, enabling the school to run two Year 1 and reception classes.

This month saw the completion of phase two, which has provided the school with a bigger hall and enough classrooms to run two forms throughout the school.

Cllr Paul Carter, leader of Kent County Council, performed the opening ceremony cutting a ribbon. He was assisted by Mayor of Maidstone, Cllr Daniel Moriarty and Archdeacon of Maidstone, Stephen Taylor, blessed children and staff.

The £2.37m extension has enabled the school in Provender Way to double its annual September intake to 60 pupils and it can now educate 420 children, aged between four and 11.

The building now boasts 14 classrooms, a hall extension, a new playground and a library area.

Head teacher Tim Harrington said: “We are absolutely delighted with our new school.

“We would like to say thanks to the politician­s, the architects and the builders who have given us such a terrific place to learn.” Bells appeal: On Saturday, July 4 from 7.30pm-10pm in All Saints’ Church, there will be a summer concert.
