Kent Messenger Maidstone

Writer Miriam launches society winner

-

An author used her book launch to help raise £250 for the Kent Deaf Children Society (KDCS). Miriam McGuirk, from Maidstone, released Shattered Dreams And Scorpions At Midnight at the Townhouse Hotel in King Street at the beginning of the month. Some 50 guests attended, including Louise Henley, chairman of the hearing charity. Proceeds were raised from book sales and a raffle. The book itself is a series of short stories about the author’s adventures while living in Turkey, where she moved 18 years ago after being diagnosed with ME. Mrs Henley said: “Being invited to celebrate this launch gave us a new, fun and more creative way of raising funds. “With the money raised, we will be able to host at least two playtime sessions for our younger deaf children. “Thank you to all involved – the team and I are most grateful.” Correspondent: Jake Harfleet Tel: 01732 847858 joharfleet@ blueyonder.co.uk Dandelion Times: Shakespeare on the lawn, two gentlemen of Verona, Sunday July 19 at 5pm.
