Struggling Offham saved by the rain
Kent League
Rain was the winner at Offham on Saturday – as it was in many Kent League games.
Offham, struggling towards the foot of Division 4, were 91 runs short of their victory target against Catford Wanderers with only three wickets in hand when play was abandoned.
Wanderers had earlier scored 269- 6 from their 50 overs, thanks largely to Damion Grossett who hit eight fours and four sixes on his way to an unbeaten 106.
Ashley Forde then smashed 59 off just 27 deliveries before Offham made a wobbly start to their run-chase.
They were 44-3 and then 72- 4 before Lewis Ransley (59) and Harry Legg (41) put on 92 for the fifth wicket. Offham had moved along to 179-7 when rain stopped play.
The weather also frustrated The Mote, who got agonisingly close to beating Hayes in Division 1.
James Hodgson (62) and Chris Back (47 not out) helped The Mote to 223-5 and they looked on the verge of victory when Hayes slumped to 134-9 in reply.
William Thirkell picked up 4-34 but it wasn’t enough to force a result as the rain came to save Hayes.
Addington Village are seven points from safety in Division 3 but their losing streak did come to an end on Saturday.
Replying to Old Wilsonians’ 209-7, they collapsed from 68-2 to 80-7 before recovering to 130- 8 by the time rain stopped play.
Unbeaten Division 4 leaders Leeds & Broomfield had to settle for a winning draw at home to Cowdrey.
Max Aitken (104) and Richard Turner (74) did plenty of damage with the bat as Leeds racked up 269-8 in a game reduced to 40 overs per side.

In Division 5, an unbeaten 62 from Sandev Landa wasn’t enough to save Holborough Anchorians from a 33-run defeat at home to Blackheath 3rds.
The visitors declared on 245- 6 before bowling Holborough out for 212.

Hollingbourne 2nds’ Mark Styche hit 67 against Nonington in Division 3 but his side were bowled out for 160 and went on to lose by five wickets.
It was a similar story in Division 4, where Addington 2nds lost at home to Rainham by five wickets having been dismissed for 170.
Phil Roxburgh scored 54 for the hosts but Rainham needed just 36 overs to knock off the runs. The Division 5 clash between Ashford Town and Offham 2nds was halted early by rain, with Offham 117- 6 in reply to Ashford’s 235- 8.
