We need more reminders of speed limit
Reporter
Reporter Everyone in Maidstone must be aware the lower part of Willington Street is undergoing resurfacing work. However, many motorists using this usually very busy road are ignoring the fact it is subject to a 30mph speed limit.
On August 19 I visited the Co-op on Willington Street when I heard the scream of high revving engines.
Two cars raced past me towards the traffic lights at Sutton Road. I am not aware if this was a race or whether there had been an altercation between the two drivers, but they ignored the safety of other road users. At my estimation they were travelling in excess of 70mph.
Other roads in Maidstone such as Heath Road, the A20, Postley Road have speed limit reminders. There are only a couple of small 30mph speed camera signs on Willington Street.
There is a 30mph sign on the A20 prior to the Willington Street turning, but many drivers ignore this when entering Willington Street. They seem unaware that, according to the Highway Code, the intervals between lampposts indicate this limit.
It is easy for the police to catch the odd driver inadvertently
