A tough final hole cost Matt Ford the chance to double his money at the Czech Masters.
He dropped five shots at the par-4 18th to finish tied-73rd in Prague last Sunday.
The Bearsted golfer earned £1,100 but had he made par on the last, he’d have shared 57th place and taken home more than £2,200. Ford, though, was encouraged by his performance over four rounds as he looks to secure his European Tour card by finishing in the top 110 in the Race to Dubai.
He’s 97th with less than two months of the season to go and trying not to think about his card.
He said: “After a good three weeks away from tournaments, I have made some progress in my game in the last couple of weeks, in Denmark and the Czech Republic, although the scores have not shown this.
“This is disappointing but I will keep working towards the bigger picture, which is to keep improving Bearsted Golf Club welcomed 124 players to their 62nd President’s Putter event last weekend. There were several prizes awarded on Saturday and Sunday but the main winner on countback was Barry Cornwall with 40 points. It’s the second time he has won the President’s Putter, the previous occasion being 25 years ago in 1990. Paul Malthouse was second in this year’s event, with Nick Manser and Glenn Fuller third. and working towards my career goals and not get too bogged down with how much I need to secure my card this year.
“I have at least six events left in the next seven weeks, so I’m focused on the job at hand.”
Ford’s next tournament is the KLM Open in Holland which starts on Thursday.
