Dance acts ready for the ultimate party in the park
jcoupe@thekmgroup.co.uk Music-lovers from around the world will flock to Maidstone tomorrow for a festival showcasing top dance acts.
Giant tents have been set up at Mote Park for The Social, which is expected to bring thousands to the town for the sell-out day.
It’s the third time the concert, which runs from midday to 11pm, will take place.
Last year, more than 8,000 people attended the Mote Avenue venue with party-goers travelling from as far as Rome, Spain and America.
Many are expected to make similar journeys this year.
Tomorrow’s gig will boast a larger crowd of 10,000 and a lineup of well-known dance music DJs, including Mark Fanciulli and Jamie Jones, who has previously been named number one DJ in the world by magazine Resident Advisor.
However, last year’s festivities were not welcomed by everyone.
Maidstone council received 10 complaints about noise and five concerning litter and parking.
A team of environmental officers will be on site monitoring noise levels making sure they don’t go over the legal limit.
Festival organisers said: “There’s never been a festival of this type on this scale in the area before.
“The town has great transport infrastructure and Kent crowds are absolutely amazing.”
Southeastern has put on an extra service to cope with the expected large number of revellers travelling back to London.
Buses will also be laid on to ferry festival-goers between the town and venue.
There will still be access to the park, including the lake, cafe and model railway for other visitors.
A winter festival was held earlier this year at Kent Life in Sandling – it’s not yet been confirmed if a second will be organised.
