Only a photo finish denied San Fairy Ann’s Geoff Wiles the title of world champion in Denmark on Sunday. Wiles, who rides for the Abellio-SFA racing team, took silver in his age group behind three-time Olympian Jorgen Hanson at the 118k World Masters Road Race. It was a remarkable achievement given that Wiles is still recovering from the serious shoulder injury he suffered after crashing at the Olympic Velodrome in July. Meanwhile, the club’s Roly Crayford also won an age-group silver medal, at the National Criterium Championships in Lichfield, Leicestershire, on Sunday. Ian Jones, of 4t+ Velo Club, has secured his Category 2 licence after finishing third at the Full Gas Summer Series event at Cyclopark, Gravesend. Ian Vagg fought hard to record a top-30 finish in his first National B Road Race, the Jet Schillings Memorial Race. And the cyclocross season got off to a good start for Stephen Gibson, who was the thirdfastest vet at Stanmer Park. A busy weekend of powerboat action lies in store for the Maidstone-based Jelf Racing team.

They head to Bedford for the final round of the Powerboat GP British Championships looking to add to the two British Sprint titles and European silver medal they’ve already won in 2015.

Jonathan Brewer competes in the GT15 junior class, looking to claw back a six-point deficit to series leader Thomas Mantripp and claim his first national title.

His team-mate George Elmore can still finish fourth overall in the championship and is targeting a podium place in Bedford.

Ben Jelf can complete a clean sweep of wins in the Powerboat GP GT30 class and is aiming to clinch an 11th British title.

The 15-year-old has an 18-point lead over rival Jamie Norris and he’ll also be racing in the F4 class this weekend.

Meanwhile, team manager Colin Jelf is looking to add the Powerboat GP F2 Championship to the F2 Sprint title he won in August.

He’s seven points behind championship leader Steve Hoult but has home water advantage for the season finale.

Colin Jelf said: “It will be a busy weekend for all the team and we have a lot of work to do.

“Three of the championship titles are still in our sights and although the task ahead is a mammoth one, we’ll do everything in our power to try to secure all three of them.

“It’s been a fantastic season and the teamwork and dedication has paid off. We’ll be looking to end the season on a high with hopefully podium finishes in each of the classes as a thank you to our sponsors.” won all four of their league games this year with matches consisting of morning foursomes and afternoon singles. Squad: Liam Burns, Tom Beaumont, Luke Spooner ( Sundridge Park), Danny Jones ( Knole Park), Mark Collins, Dan Brown ( Chart Hills), Freddie Price ( Royal Blackheath), Josh Bristow ( Canterbury), George Mullins, Tom Jordan ( Langley Park), Dan Byrne ( Dartford).

Wildernesse GC in Sevenoaks this week hosted their annual Bishops Bowl tournament, a Kent County Golf Union Order of Merit event. Dartford’s Michael Saunders won after rounds of 73 and 68 for a three-underpar total of 141. Liam Burns (Sundridge Park) was runner-up, while 17-yearold Dan Smith (Canterbury) collected the handicap prize.

Maidstone’s George Young has won a limited-edition BOSS watch after a hole-inone. Young, 14, achieved the feat at the 143-yard par-3 13th at West Malling Golf Club.
