Kent Messenger Maidstone

Pinnock deal unlikely, says McKimm

Tonbridge

Steve McKimm admits transfer-listed Maidstone winger Mitchell Pinnock has shown little desire to rejoin Tonbridge.

Angels boss McKimm contacted Pinnock when Stones said he could leave the Gallagher Stadium, but a deal to bring the former loan star back to Longmead looks unlikely.

McKimm said: “I’m waiting to see what happens. I need commitment to my squad because of the position we’re in.

“I’ve given him a lot of support recently and over the last two years he’s played a lot of his football for Tonbridge Angels.

“When I put the call in to him, I was expecting him to say ‘can I come back?’ but I didn’t really get that vibe.

“He’s had his best moments with us but he’s got his own people looking after him. He’ll make the decision that’s right for Mitchell Pinnock.

“That’s not to say it won’t happen, but I think that answers a lot of questions for now.”

Tonbridge climbed to seventh in the Ryman League Premier Division on Tuesday when they beat Lewes 1- 0.

They needed an 88th-minute Nathan Elder goal to secure the points at Longmead against the side who are now bottom of the league.

McKimm admitted: “As time was ticking down, I was thinking the worst. We need to win those games if we’ve got aspirations to do well.

“Expectation from the fans, because of where we are and where they are, is ‘that’s three points’ but it didn’t look like it was going to come. When it did, it was a massive relief.”

Tonbridge host Hendon tomorrow (Saturday), the visitors travelling to Kent just two places and one point above the relegation zone.

McKimm said: “Gary McCann’s a good manager and they’re obviously not getting the rub of the green.

“With the players they’ve got and the way he is, I think they’re in a false position.”

Angels are one point off the play-offs with four games in hand over the two sides immediately above them.

But McKimm said: “We’ve been indifferent lately. We’re huffing and puffing a lot, but there are a few areas we need to work on.

“It’s important we get three points again. If you’re dropping points, you might as well not have the games in hand.”
