Family pay loving tribute to driver killed in smash

The family of a driver who died when his car collided with a tanker has paid tribute to a devoted husband, son, brother, uncle and friend.

Phil Edbrooke-Childs was driving a red Nissan Qashqai when his car collided with a silver petrol tanker in Hermitage Lane, Maidstone, last Monday.

Emergency services, including an air ambulance and ambulance response team, were called, but the 36-year-old died at the scene.

In a statement, his family said that he was loved by all who knew him.

“His constant smile, infectious happiness, laughter and outgoing personalit­y will live forever in our hearts and minds,” they said.

“He always enjoyed trying new things and had a great sense of adventure in living life to the full.

“He would do anything for anyone and will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate enough to have been part of his life.”

Mr Edbrooke- Childs, from Dover, had been managing director of Kent and Medway Health Informatic­s Service, a technology provider for the NHS, since 2013.

His most recent success had been the developmen­t of a pioneering new app to help parents with newborn babies, called Born to Move.

Among his hobbies were photograph­y, cooking and graphic design.

Police are investigat­ing the crash and appealing for witnesses to come forward.

An inquest into his death was opened and adjourned on Monday, with multiple injuries recorded as the cause of death and a provisiona­l date of Monday, March 14, set for a full hearing.
