Edinburgh’s waiting game

Gillingham manager Justin Edinburgh is playing a waiting game as the transfer window reaches the midway point.

Edinburgh is keen to add another forward to the squad and also wants cover in the centre-back area. He’s identified players in both areas but is sitting tight.

“We are in negotiations with people,” said Edinburgh, who takes his Gills team to Doncaster tomorrow (Saturday).

“Some of the players have slight knocks at the moment, some are being included in the squads but if those teams bring other players in then they will become available.

“It is just a bit of cat and mouse at the moment, waiting for other people to make their additions, to allow their players to leave.”

Edinburgh is likely to find out in the middle of the week if Cardiff defender Deji Oshilaja is available again for loan.

“I am prepared to be patient on Deji and we are cool with that one,” added Edinburgh. “If we can’t get Deji, then we will probably look at another centre-half.”

Edinburgh was keeping his forward target to himself but dismissed talk of his interest in Wolves’ Jed Wallace, who last week moved on loan to Millwall.

He said: “Wallace wasn’t someone we wanted but he (the player targeted) is someone similar to that, who can play in a couple of positions. We are hopeful we can get that player to the club.”

Former Watford full-back Lloyd Doyley is still training with the Gills but no deal has, as yet, been done.
