Promotion is Dack’s focus

Gillingham

-

Bradley Dack might dream about playing Premier League football but he’s focusing on only one thing right now.

With 15 goals he leads the scoring charts at Gillingham and is desperate to extend their season with a shot at the League 1 play-offs.

He has been linked with a £ 2.5m move to Crystal Palace in the summer but Gillingham’s newly-crowned player-of-the-year only has one aim this week.

He said: “It is every footballer’s dream to play at the top level. It is a short career at the end of the day and that’s where the money is. We will see what happens in the summer but my focus is getting Gillingham promoted.

“We were all devastated last Saturday. A few of the players thought it was all over and I was devastated.

“I believe we can beat Millwall. We know we have the beating of them. Barnsley and Scunthorpe have two of the toughest games you can get in League 1, so let’s hope those two can do us a favour and we can get into the play-offs.”

Dack was also named players’ player-of-the-year on Sunday night and said winning the trophies was a great honour.

But he was quick to praise his team-mates, adding: “I couldn’t have done it without any of the boys. A lot of credit goes to them and the team spirit in that dressing room is unbelievable.”

Reacting to the Palace rumours, he said: “That stuff doesn’t faze me.

“Gillingham will always have a special place in my heart, I have been here eight or nine years and owe a lot to this club.

“Speculation is just speculation and it’s for agents and chairmen to sort it out.

“It will be my decision but at the moment I am focused on getting Gillingham into the Championship.”

Gillingham’s game against Millwall on Sunday is a mustwin, but even that may not be enough after they lost 2-1 at Burton last weekend.

Justin Edinburgh’s side are two places outside the play-offs heading into their final match of the season, at Priestfield.

Not only do they have to take maximum points from their game, they also have to hope promotion rivals Barnsley and Scunthorpe both fail to win.

If all three results come in, then the Gills will claim the final play-off spot.
