Saturday, June 11 at 2pm on the church green in Robin Hood Lane. The theme will be a celebratio­n of the Queen’s 90th birthday. Attraction­s include dancing displays, a marching band, bouncy castle, face painting, human fruit machine, along with a tombola and raffle and the opportunit­y to buy some plants for the garden or some secondhand books for summer reading. The ever popular children’s races will have medals awarded to the winners with a special podium presentati­on and the day will end with a tug of war. Food will be plentiful including ice cream and hot dogs, as well as a chance to sample an afternoon tea with home made cakes in the village hall. The branch is keen to get as many people to both the indoor Afternoon Tea (ticket donation £5) and the Family and Friends Picnic in the Park, which includes music, entertainm­ent and children’s attraction­s. If anyone needs transport to get there and back or wishes to book a place for the tea to ring Mike and Maureen on 01622 743270. Queen’s birthday celebratio­n: Celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday at St Mary’s Church, Sutton Valence: on Sunday May 12 at 2pm, Michael Beaman will be leading a guided tour of St Mary’s Church and the churchyard; at 3pm The Companye of Singers, directed and conducted by Sue Wight, will be singing music sung at the Queen’s Coronation and on other royal occasions, and at 4pm, cream teas will be served in the churchyard, weather permitting (if it doesn’t, they will be in church). Pop-in Get Together: All are invited to the monthly pop-in get together on Wednesday, June 15 from 2-4pm at the church. Enjoy a cuppa, a good natter and home baked cakes, while catching up with old friends or meeting new ones. WI birthday party: Yalding and District WI holds its annual birthday party on Tuesday, June 14 at 7.30pm at the village hall. Members will be upholding the tradition of supplying naughty but nice puddings. Monthly tea party: The ladies enjoyed their tea party at the home of Barbara and Ray Grandi on June 1. They enjoyed the warmth of the log burner on the unseasonab­ly cold day. Thanks to Margaret’s lovely baking, they also enjoyed cheese scones, sausage rolls and an assortment of cakes. Busy Woodpecker­s: An enthusiast­ic group of Woodpecker­s turned up to tidy the churchyard last Saturday. Piles of leaves were cleared from the bottom of the church wall, ivy was pulled away from the perimeter wall, the rose garden was weeded and other general tidying up duties completed. Pam kindly provided tea/coffee and cakes at the end of the session as usual. In August, the Woodpecker­s will be temporaril­y removing the plaques from the church wall in order to strip and re-varnish the wooden framework on which they are mounted. Parish council: The council meets on Monday June 13 at 7.30pm in the school. All residents are welcome to attend, but should you wish to address the council on any matter, contact Alan Crocker, the clerk, at least 24 hours ahead of the meeting on 01580 766249 or email clerk. collstpc1@btopenworl­d.com St Margaret’s Singers: On Saturday June 11 at 7pm, a summer concert takes place at the village church to celebrate the Queen’s birthday. St Margaret’s singers, accompanie­d by Tonbridge Chapel organist, David Williams, will be presenting music from the reigns of Queen Elizabeth I and Queen Elizabeth Luna is a beautiful rabbit who came into the RSCPA’s care after being discovered as a stray and is looking for a new family to love and care for her. She’s well-behaved when being handled but it’s recommende­d that her new owners continue to handle and groom her to ensure that she becomes accustomed FOCSS fundraisin­g: The Friends of Collier Street School (FOCSS) continue to work hard to raise funds for the school. In May £96 was raised from Bags2Schoo­l in return for donations of old clothing etc. Then the kite workshop, organised by James Tod, raised £192.20 and provided a beautiful kite flying day, which will be repeated (weather permitting) on Saturday, June 18, the day of the pet show and summer fair.
