Picnic in Park: The Friends of Marden Heritage Big Musical Picnic in the Park was a great success last Saturday, The cold winds had gone, although the sun still did not appear. Neverthele­ss all the hard work of the committee and the other groups participat­ing was rewarded by a great crowd, music, singing and picnics. All in all a successful day. Bellringin­g: A session for novice bellringer­s will take place at St Nicholas Church on Monday, June 13 at 7.30pm, providing an opportunit­y to learn more about the tradition of English-style bell ringing and help keep this ancient art alive and ‘have a go’ at ringing the bells in a safe, supervised environmen­t. Fete: A traditiona­l country fete will take place on the Village Green on Saturday, June 18 from 1.30pm4.15pm. Arena events include Woofs Dog Show (all dogs welcome to be entered) 2pm; dance 3pm; children’s races 3.45pm; sideshows and games for all the family. Cakes, books, plants and preserves on sale, tombola, raffle and refreshmen­ts. Free entry. BBQ: A family BBQ to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday is being organised by the ringers at St Nicholas Church to take place in and around the churchyard on Sunday June 12 from 1pm-4pm. Tickets cost £8 for an adult and £5 for a child under five. The number of tickets are limited. Take your own garden chair and/or rug to sit on plus your own drink and glasses. Tea, coffee and squash will be supplied. As part of the national celebratio­ns, there will be bellringin­g between noon and 2pm and a celebrator­y Quarter peal will be attempted. There was a vote for two resolution­s on dementia care and food waste for the national annual meeting at Brighton. Members are looking forward to another year of friendship, outings and speakers. Visitors are welcome to attend the meetings on the second Thursday of the month at 7.30pm at Maidstone Hockey Club.
